Call for Papers
GRAD STUDENT ESSAY DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 21
The SCMS Horror Studies SIG’s annual GRADUATE STUDENT ESSAY PRIZE is now accepting submissions! The winning essay will be published in a forthcoming edition of Monstrum. The author also will receive a $500 CAD cash prize from Monstrum supported by funding from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC) and the Collective for Research on Epistemologies and Ontologies of Embodied Risk (CORÉRISC). The winning author will also receive a copy of a book of their choice from the University of Wales Press Horror Studies series.
To enter, please send your essay (of 5,000 - 7,000 words, including notes and references), on horror film or media in a Word document file to horrorstudiessig@gmail.com by 11:59 p.m. on February 21, 2025 (CDT).
All submissions will be reviewed anonymously. It is the author's responsibility to ensure the essay does not contain any identifying information such as their name and affiliated institution.
To submit an essay, you must currently be a graduate student, or have graduated within the last 12 months, and must be a member of both SCMS and the Horror Studies Scholarly Interest Group. The submitted essay cannot be published, forthcoming, or currently under review with a peer-reviewed journal.
